The Fanwu Xiangyin Tea packaging design draws inspiration from the unique geographical environment of Yunnan's tea production areas. The designers have incorporated elements of Yunnan's tea gardens, tea trees, tea pickers, and precious animals into the design. The result is a packaging design that resembles an elephant's head, symbolizing ecological harmony.
What sets this design apart is its eco-friendly approach. The outer box is made from a compressive wood material that is both degradable and environmentally friendly. This light and portable box is not only practical but also serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental awareness.
The tea jar, made of metal, is designed for multiple uses, further emphasizing the designers' commitment to sustainability. The jar's portable handle design makes it easy to carry, adding to the convenience of the product.
The project, which began in September 2018 in Shenzhen, China, and was completed in November 2018, faced several challenges. The designers had to overcome technical difficulties and costs while striving to transform traditional tea culture into a contemporary idea. Despite these challenges, the design was awarded the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding and trendsetting creation.
Wen Liu and Bo Zheng's Fanwu Xiangyin Tea packaging design is a perfect example of how design can be used to reflect the product's roots and promote environmental consciousness. It is a reminder that design can go beyond aesthetics and functionality to convey a deeper message.
